BMW M Performance Power Kit Now Available for 2012 and Later BMW 335i Sedan

Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – March 25, 2013… BMW today announced a new M Performance Power Kit for the 2012 model year and later BMW 335i Sedan and 335i xDrive Sedan models. The M Performance Power Kit joins the existing M Performance Parts line which includes chassis, aerodynamics, exhaust system components, and trim accessories. Developed through consultation by the engineers at BMW M GmbH, the M Performance Power Kit is immediately available through all Authorized BMW centers in the US, with MSRP starting at $1,100 (plus Installation) and retains BMW’s 4-Year / 50,000-Mile New Vehicle Warranty when purchased with a new vehicle.

More Power. More Dynamic. More Emotion.
Once the Power Kit is installed, the vehicle’s rated horsepower is increased from 300 to 320 on all models. Automatic transmission-equipped models enjoy a 32 lb-ft peak torque increase (to 332 lb-ft), while manual transmission-equipped models benefit from a 17 lb-ft peak torque increase (to 317 lb-ft). All models receive a re-mapped accelerator pedal calibration for more dynamic throttle response, and the Power Kit produces a signature, highly-emotional “exhaust burble” sound during engine overrun conditions. 0–60mph acceleration is improved 0.2 seconds compared to standard 335i models, while 50–75mph times drop by a full half-second.

The BMW M Performance Power Kit features comprehensive engine tuning via advanced software 335i and 335i xDrive Sedan models. The kit includes updated software or replacement engine DME (electronic control unit), high-capacity engine air intake system, signature BMW M Performance engine cover, and rocker panel decals. This gives the 335i Sedan or 335i xDrive Sedan a substantial power boost (+20 horsepower) while retaining the original 50-state legal emissions certification and fuel efficiency ratings.

BMW Team RLL finishes fourth and seventh as BMW Z4 GTE makes first appearance

Sebring – March 16, 2013… For more than eight hours a top result was in reach for BMW Team RLL at the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) season opener at the “Sebring International Raceway” (US). While in the end technical problems in the final third of the race denied Bobby Rahal’s (US) squad a shot at a possible podium finish, BMW Motorsport was able to draw a positive conclusion after the race debut of the newly developed BMW Z4 GTE. The two cars showed a promising pace, finishing fourth and seventh in the GT category after 12 hours.

Bill Auberlen (US), Maxime Martin (BE) and Jörg Müller (DE) were able to battle it out at the front of the field with the Frozen Black No. 55 BMW Z4 GTE for most of the endurance classic, before the trio lost time and positions due to an issue with the power steering. After 330 laps, final-stint driver Müller crossed the line in fourth. The No. 56 BMW Z4 GTE, driven by Dirk Müller (DE), Joey Hand (US) and John Edwards (US), delivered an equally strong race, even leading for several kilometers in the BMW Z4 GTE’s maiden ALMS race. However, a problem with the front left strut with three and a half hours to go made repair work necessary. Dirk Müller lost many positions, dropping down from second. Hand ultimately took the checkered flag in seventh. Corvette’s Oliver Gavin (GB), Tommy Milner (US) and Richard Westbrook (GB) claimed victory in the GT class.

Nevertheless, BMW Motorsport and BMW Team RLL had every reason to be satisfied with the first outing of the BMW Z4 GTE in race conditions — on one of North America’s most challenging circuits. All six drivers, including the series newcomers Martin and Edwards, were able to record competitive lap times with the new car and challenge the strong competition at the front of the GT pack. In addition, the engineers collected valuable insights over the course of the weekend, which will now be used for further development of the car and getting it prepared for the second ALMS race at Long Beach (US) on April 20.

BMW to Debut New Models at the 2013 New York International Auto Show on March 27

BMW Concept Active Tourer and BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo to Make North American Debuts; Diesel-Powered BMW 328d to Make U.S. Debut

Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – March 14, 2013… Following BMW’s pioneering philosophy of sustainable mobility, BMW will introduce the Concept Active Tourer for the first time in North America at the 2013 New York International Auto Show on Wednesday, March 27th at the BMW stand from 11:45 a.m. – 12:05 p.m. at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan (655 W. 34th Street at 11th Avenue). The automaker will also feature two new additions to its award-winning 3 Series lineup, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo and the diesel-powered BMW 328d.

Offering a glimpse of further innovations in store for the premium compact segment, BMW introduces the Concept Active Tourer — a new plug-in hybrid concept which combines comfort and functionality with dynamics and style while showcasing several innovative solutions. Featuring an elongated wedge-shaped silhouette, athletic proportions and typical BMW lines, this concept car features a 3-cylinder gasoline engine coupled with an electric motor which allows for nearly 95 mpg. The Concept Active Tourer will also feature a “Cool Shade” composite glass roof which uses “Suspended Particle Device” technology allowing the driver to make the roof crystal clear or darken with the touch of a button.

BMW first redefined the Gran Turismo segment with the BMW 5 Series GT by adding first-class seating for four with space for luggage — and now introduces the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo. Based on the iconic BMW 3 Series, a car that has appeared on Car and Driver’s 10 Best list for 22 consecutive years, the 3 Series GT features a longer wheelbase, more rear seat room and flexible luggage space with an optional panoramic moonroof. The 3 Series GT will arrive in the U.S. this summer and will be available with either an award-winning TwinPower Turbo 4 cylinder or inline 6-cylinder engine.

BMW Z4 GTE race debut in Sebring – BMW Team RLL is ready for fifth ALMS season

Munich – March 12, 2013… The 2013 season of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) is not the only thing kicking off at the 12 Hours of Sebring (US) this weekend. The race also marks the start of a new era in BMW Motorsport’s program in North America: This is the first time BMW Team RLL will line up against opposition in the GT class with the newly developed BMW Z4 GTE.

The BMW Z4 GTE debuts in the wake of an extremely successful Sebring scorecard for its predecessor, the BMW M3 GT. BMW Team RLL won the GT class at the endurance classic in Florida in both 2011 and 2012. This year, the 61st staging of the race at the “Sebring International Raceway” will serve as a marker to determine the strength of the new car. At the wheel of a sinister No. 55 BMW Z4 GTE finished in BMW’s Frozen Black will be Bill Auberlen (US), Maxime Martin (BE) and Jörg Müller (DE). The No. 56 car — in classic, Alpine White BMW Motorsport livery — will be driven by Dirk Müller (DE), Joey Hand (US) and John Edwards (US).

Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport Director):

“After all the months of development and preparation with the new BMW Z4 GTE, we are obviously now looking forward to testing ourselves against the opposition for the first time in Sebring. We have been very successful at this 12-hour race in recent years. I am excited to see whether the BMW Z4 GTE will cope as well with the specific demands of this race as its predecessor the BMW M3 GT did. We would like to start the season with a good result. However, the priority is to capitalize on the potential of the new car. This will obviously take a while.”

BMW Golf Cup International

World Final triumph for local heroes from Team South Africa at the sensational Fancourt Golf Resort

Munich – March 11, 2013… Standing ovations for Gary Player, jubilation for the victorious team from South Africa and huge joy among the Germans for an outstanding second place — the official gala evening to mark the end of the BMW Golf Cup International World Final, held at one of the country’s vineyards, proved a glittering highlight and fitting climax to a fantastic week of golf at South Africa’s Fancourt Golf Resort. Following the participation of around 100,000 players from all over the world in the qualifying rounds of the competition, BMW invited 137 players and their entourages from 47 countries to take part in the final of the world’s largest amateur golf series. Here in South Africa, however, all participants could consider themselves winners — just to have been part of the event was a reward in itself.

“This week and the entire BMW Golf Cup International have been a great success and an unforgettable experience for all involved,” said Eckhard Wannieck, Head of International Sponsoring, Cooperations and Product Placement at BMW. “The participants came from four different continents and from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. At times communication between them was difficult, but the one thing that united them was a passion for the game of golf and for the BMW brand. That’s a wonderful thing.”

BMW and MINI: Two brands – seven awards

BMW and MINI take four firsts in the “Good looks/style” category of the German Auto Bild readers’ survey “The best brands” and another three top slots in special categories

Munich – March 1, 2013… BMW and MINI recorded seven first places in the “The best brands in all classes” poll of just under 100,000 readers carried out by German motoring magazine Auto Bild. Three of these came courtesy of BMW in the “Good looks/style” category for mid-range, executive and luxury-class cars, while MINI came on top of the “Best design” rankings for small cars. BMW also led the way in the “Sporty engines,” “Advanced technology” and “Well-connected cars” categories.

A variety of design elements have come together over several decades to form the distinctive design DNA of BMW. Each new BMW offers a fresh take on these characteristic features and, in so doing, brings its own distinctive flavor to the fore. BMW has always been a standard-bearer of groundbreaking automotive design, using pioneering innovations to establish a constant stream of new landmarks. Auto Bild readers agreed: over 80 percent of those surveyed ranked BMW as the leading mid-range, executive and luxury car brand in the “Good looks/style” category.

MINI design is based on a clear design language and represents the evolutionary progression of the classic Mini born in 1959. Following in these small-car tire tracks, MINI wraps originality and intelligence in the smallest possible package. The consistent expansion of the MINI brand family reflects the success of MINI design in breathing new life into the brand’s underlying values – and using this as a springboard to develop authentic and fascinating perspectives for the future of the brand. This is a view shared by 87 percent of the readers questioned for the survey, who voted MINI the number-one small car in the “Good looks/style” category.
